“ Best Thai food ive eaten. Went to downtown east for wild wild wet weekend and happened to chance upon this gem. The menu photos looked average so I was about to walk away but the waiter CT was very kind in introducing us to the restaurant and mentioning that it had an authentic Thai chef. All the food look quite average but the taste is very above average, definitely worth a try. ”

“ Today I heard a chef said that people wrote reviews when they wanted to complain but are usually lazier to review a good experience. Theres some truth in that for me so I decided to finally write about one of my favourite restaurants. Our family has been coming here for years for their Thai style steamed sea bass Pla Neung Manow. The fish is consistently fresh and gravy is to die for. Standard to me is higher than most restaurants and on par with hotel banquet dinner. I always end up eating more rice than I should with this dish. You can have a great meal just with plain White rice with the steamed fish. The Thai style crab omelette Khai Jiao Poo is also very fluffy and delicious. Spicy Kang Kong Phad Pak Boong is also a regular order as is Moo Ping. I think the flavours here are on point and consistent. Not sure about the rice dishes as we hardly order those. Try the Thai style steamed fish, order more plain white rice you will not regret it. Hope the chef maintains the consistent standard and not change. By the way aircon is a bit cold so you may want to sit outside if youre afraid of cold. Read about bad service from their staff but personally never encountered any rudeness or bad service in all my years patronising them. However if youre the type who expects nicey smile and attentive service from the serving staff, this is not the place for you. Personally I dislike hate too much attention fake smile from service staff yes hate American style service culture with in expectation of the big tip. Just serve me good food. Period. ”

“ recently rediscovered The Basil Inn again! had dinner here on mothers day and we enjoyed our dinner very much i think its a great place to catchup with friendsfamily while enjoying nofrills but good quality thai food. Food they use fresh ingredients and i appreciate that a lot. no glass prawns, thank God. the prawns and squid were so fresh?! i hate ordering squid usually because most midpriced places always mess it up hard and tasteless, id rather eat an eraser. but the basil inn won over the hearts of everyone at the table with their squid and prawn dish Goong Gab Pla Muek Ma i hope i got the name right. its spicy and tangy and fresh, not fishy at all despite being seafood, we were shocked at how good it was. other dishes we loved Pad Thai tasty, not sugar sweet like most places, Papaya Salad id say pick this over mango salad, Basil Pork Rice, Thai Iced Tea. ALSO, if you generally love green curry but always found it too spicy, The Basil Inn does a rendition that wont set your stomach on fire could be a procon depending on how much you love chilli. Atmosphere another underrated plus point is how the ceiling is really high so the noise level in the restaurant is kept at a minimum when compared to most airconditioned places that are filled with chatting patrons. you can have a conversation without needing to raise your voice, no headache because the restaurant was too noisy. the restaurant also has floor to ceiling windows facing the waterpark, i love the natural light streaming in! Service the staff are friendly, i like them a lot! FYI you gotta pay at the counter immediately after ordering your food also at the counter. no service charge, no gst, and payment cashnetspaynow only sorry to anyone trying to hit credit card minimum spend. ”

“ The food was delicious, fresh and in great portions for the price! It was really authentic Thai food too! We had the crab fried rice, beef soup with lots of beef and steamed Thai fish. No service charge and GST. Place deserves better. Not sure whats with the negative reviews. ”

“ We have been coming here for years. The food never disappoint. Usually will order their fried pork, mango salad, omelette, olive rice, seafood tom yum soup, glutinous rice with mango dessert. Thats already quite a mouthful for our family, and left us little room to try other dishes. ”

“ I love coming here over the last 12 years seeing Basil Inn go through its various iterations. This cosy neighbourhood restaurant has been a mainstay and its always so reassuring to eat here. My favourites have always been the beef noodles and mango sticky rice. They recently added grilled pork neck to their specials menu and it was really delicious as well. ”

“ Best Thai food Ive eaten in Singapore! The photo speaks for itself, we finished everything. Service though not top notch but the staffs are helpful and friendly, good enough for me considering that they dont have service charge. Their prawn cakes are superb, green curry is fantastic, and their sour spicy signature steam fish is a MUST try. ”
